Salesforce’s most anticipated Development solutions: Code Builder and DevOps Center are now in Beta

Two of the best Salesforce tools, Salesforce Code Builder and DevOps Center, are currently in Beta!

After grueling a couple of years in development, Salesforce unleashes DevOps Center and its web-based IDE, Salesforce Code Builder in Beta, enabling users to install, test, and provide feedback.

Touted as the future of Salesforce development, these two tools are eagerly awaited and defined as Salesforce’s big, bold move to optimize the development environment. So, before you lay your hands on them, let us learn more about these tools. Shall we?

Everything about Code Builder

As Salesforce developers need to build and deploy applications faster in this work-from-anywhere world, they want that flexibility to be able to build apps from anywhere.

So, to help developers be efficient and productive, Salesforce announced its Integrated Development Environment, Code Builder, in June 2020, which was modeled after GitHub Codespaces.

After two years of silence and numerous improvements, the product is now live in Beta.

Here are a few things you should know about Code Builder before you take a spin.

What is Code Builder?

Salesforce Code Builder is an integrated development environment powered by AWS that allows you to launch an IDE to your browser from your Salesforce org.

That means developers now can code virtually on any device without needing to install and configure any developer tool.

Features of Code Builder

Code Builder comes equipped with the all features of a new-age IDE. It has the same set of extensions as Salesforce Extensions and has the look and feel similar to Visual Studio Code Interface.

Its prime features are

  • Code completion
  • Built-in integration with version control systems to work on DevOps workflows
  • Search and refactoring
  • Support for Salesforce-developed programming languages and frameworks

Limitations

In the Beta version of Code Builder, there is a capped usage at 20 hours for a maximum of 30 days.

Also, Salesforce recommends closing of Code Builder tab in the browser after saving the work to stop the usage clock when not working on Code builder.

All things about Dev Ops Center

DevOps Center is yet another most anticipated product released in Public Beta recently.

This product is designed for developers to leverage the modern DevOps best practices with the help of an easy-to-use and centralized interface.

What is DevOps Center

DevOps Center is a new and improved UI-based way to manage and release Salesforce changes without using the Change Sets.

This tool also works in sync with hybrid teams working on CLI or VS Code outside Devops Center.

Features of DevOps Center

  • Ability to track and deploy associated changes with work items and organize your work
  • Monitor changes automatically by getting a view of a list of changed metadata components in the DevOps Center
  • Seamless integration with GitHub
  • Deploy changes from one stage to the next simply with clicks

You can enable and install the DevOps Center Beta on the new “DevOps Center” page in Setup.
